50 Weeks Of Intercession

A Prophets View

Excerpt from Week 43:  Rain

Ask of the Lord rain in the time of the latter or spring rain.  It is the Lord Who makes lightnings which usher in the rain and give men showers, and grass to everyone in the field.  Zech. 10:1 (Amp)

Have you ever noticed how people behave in the rain?  The strangest thing happens when water begins to fall from the sky.  Rational people, who shower daily (hopefully), wash their dishes in---you guessed it---water, bathe their babies in, well, water, suddenly begin to run for cover when caught out in the rain.  We'll grab everything from a garbage bag (preferably unused, but anything goes in a pinch), to a diaper to a plastic head cover or even our Bible (yes, boys and girls, I've seen people use their Bible to keep rain off their head!)---and cover our heads as if the rain were some dread plague.  We huddle by the dozen under an umbrella to shield us from the watery scourge, yet splash through mud puddles as we sprint through the parking lot to our car.  Why do we behave this way?  It truly makes me giggle.  You're laughing, too.  I see you.  But seriously, don't you find this behavior quite odd?

There is a parallel here that can apply to God's people, as well.  We ask Him to rain on us.  We plead for a refreshing downpour from Heaven to revitalize our thirsty soul.  And then it happens.  One drop after another begins to fall, in answer to our cries.  But more often than not, we do the unthinkable---we cover up our heads and run for cover!

Think about it.  When the Lord begins to move around the altars in our churches and someone begins to travail before the Lord, how do we behave in the "downpour"?  Honestly, most folks get a little nervous.  Suddenly, our bladder is hyperactive.  Or that cute baby on the pew in front of us steals our attention and gives us an excuse to "get out of the rain".  And we wonder why we are DRY?  What if we took down our umbrellas and stepped into that Blessed Rain?  How might our lives be changed forever?
